You're getting there...

It has potential. It's not that great IMO, there's plenty of room for improvement, but it's not terrible either. One of the biggest things holding your music down (yes, I've listened to your other hardstyle efforts as well) is the instruments and the samples you use. They're utterly terrible. Replace those, and you'll be a large step ahead of where you are now. Whatever you're using for a lead is dance-ish, but it's too "creepy" sounding, for lack of a better word. It's too distorted and unclear. The kick is by far the biggest problem here. You were using a kick for hardcore or speedcore, while you should've used something more for hardstyle. You can download hardstyle kick samples, but you're better off making your own. I suggest getting a hefty undistorted kick, and getting a bass that fits the kick, then gate the bass and copy the paterns for the kick to the bass. Your kick should sound like when the kick first comes in on this track..

I also suggest throwing some ambient pads in there.

I disagree with everything the below reviewer said. His points about the song being bad were all characteristics of hardstyle now. He/she clearly doesn't understand the genre. But he also said the kick was good, this is NOT an appropriate kick for this song.
-I know it sounds like I'm shitting on your track, I'm totally not. It's just suggestions for imoprovements. This isn't too bad.

IJamLegend responds:

Creepy is what is was going for and I think thats more to do with the melody than the actual leed itself :P I'll keep the other things in mind though :)

Samples...

The samples are what killed this song. I liked the lazor quote. A lot. I LOVED the wobbles in the intro and later in the song. But the drum samples absolutely KILLED this song. The kick was bad. It wasn't low enough, it didn't ring. The snare used in most of the song as well as the hat just made me wanna puke. Re-do this with more dubstep appropriate drum samples, and you'll have a pretty good track on your hands.

MormoMaker responds:

I didn't have a chance to listen to the actual song, so I will fix this.
If there are any other problems, please let me know.
Thanks, I will probably re-upload this tomorrow.
:D

I'm in love with this!

Title says it all. I love this. i seriously can't wait to hear the full version of this song, it sounds simply amazing! I liked every riff, every lick, everything that was written. The only thing I didn't like is the quality of the recording, but I understand how recording can be difficult D=

Fantastic job with this !

zac11114 responds:

thanks! yeah, we did everything pretty much in one take, and as i said, its not mastered or mixed very well. on the final we'll take more care with recording everything lol. we're gonna record the FINAL FINAL version in the studio. thanks alot for the support!

Nice!

Though none of the melodies were particularly complex, it all sounded simple, I appreciate the complexity of the track. It really sounds great. Sounds from all sorts of styles meshed into this track, distinct dubstep wobble, but without the distortion so instead of filthiness it's relaxing. The somewhat obscure lead synth sounded amazing as well. Everything down to the airy pad sounded fantastic. Good job with this one!

dj-Nate responds:

Why, thank you

Uhm..

It's a bit odd. A little more obscure than I'd expected.

0:00-0:55 - It took quite a while for the track to really get interesting. That whole part of the song just didn't really seem to flow, everything seemed random. Also, the lead synth was piercingly loud. It really hurt my ears, highly displeasing =(

0:56-1:52 - More randomness. The hardstyle kick was a bit weird in this song, it seemed out of place. I didn't see the song going anywhere, it didn't get me pumped up for the rest of the song.

1:53-2:24 - The abrupt end in the music for a quiet quote is alright, but it's a 30 second quote. As meaningful or relevant to the song as it may be, having it be that dull for so long eliminate any sort of anticipation the audience would get from a quote. It was so calm that at first I thought this track would get real epic real fast, but it just dragged on and on and on...

2:25-3:17 - A familiar style, familiar sounds. I liked it, but there was still no relevance to anything in the beginning. It all still seemed so random and out of place, it was confusing. Well, except for the hardstyle kick, but still. If you started the song from 2:25 or so, you would've been better off.

3:18-4:22 - Nice. Hardstyle. Gotta love this. It sounded great at this point, except after a minute straight of that melody (as nice as it was, it wasn't as energetic as the kick commanded it to be), it got a bit old. I got pumped there'd be a release of some energy. It felt like there'd be a drop or a breakdown or something intense. But it was the same melody, it remained unchanged, it was the same aside from the kick pattern, which was relatively monotonous.. A bit of a let down.

4:23-end - As soon as I heard the guy's voice again, I wanted to stop listening, out of fear. But the quote ended, and I pushed through to the end. The outro was just relevant to the intro, which had nothing to do with the body. It didn't fit, it sounded random, and the lead was still piercing and painful to listen to.

SessileNomad responds:

lol random, i pray to god i pass this round so i can show you what random really means

Good, but...

I REALLY liked the melody. The lead was great. The intro sounded fantastic, it pumped me up for the rest of the song. It has a nice tense feel to it. The drums were kind of generic sounding, at least beat-wise, but it was still okay. My main problem with the song is that it just feels... "empty". That's the only way I can describe it. It sounds like something's missing or not there. I really can't tell quite what - I hear a pad in the background, there's plenty of bass, and a lead. All I can guess is maybe EQ'ing?

At any rate, this sounds great nontheless. =D

Sirdangolot5 responds:

does this mean I'm getting in? XD

Sweet!

I never heard a fusion like this before. I'm loving it ALL though, including the happy hardcore parts (which I've never been fond of in the past, so that really says something). For some reason it reminds me a LOT of some DJ Sharpnel stuff.

RetromanOMG responds:

It's really nice to know people who don't even like Happycore are enjoying this song. Thanks, lol.

Edit: Just listened to Pretty Green Onions by DJ Sharpnel. This guy is amazing.

WHOAH

Beautiful, yet heavy at the same time. Melodic glitch-tastic drums and piano flow so well. Reminds me a lot of some older nubbinownz stuff. I absolutely adore this track <3

SessileNomad responds:

thanks! nubbin makes some pretty sweet tunage

I agree with the below reviewer

Cowbell didn't fit really. The opening sound really does stay too long. Get a pad or something to fill it in and replace that. You could really speed things up with a complicated lead and a sick breakdown. I'd like to hear the final result if you continue work on this. It's got some really good potential.

carl565 responds:

alright, thanks for the review. ill pm you when i get it finished

Sweet!

Reminds me a lot of some older nubbinownz stuff. This is some top notch stuff right here.I'll definitely be checking into some of your other work =D

RetromanOMG responds:

Thanks for the review. Nubbin is actually the biggest influence on my breakcore.

It's nice to know that someone else will be paying attention to my music now.
